Witch' rescued from mob lynching in India

A woman was saved in the nick of time after villagers in a Malda village were planning to kill her, branding her a witch. The incident occurred in the tribal-dominated village of Gurnagar in Bamangola recently. Villager Abiram Soren had been suffering from an ailment for the last few months. After treatment by village quacks, Abiram was finally taken to Malda District Hospital, where he died. Villagers believed that there was an "ill influence", due to which the teen died. A local soothsayer had earlier said that Jhumri Mardi (40) was responsible for all their illnesses, and Abiram's death convinced them that Jhumri had cast a spell on the boy. Some of them got together and hatched a plan to kill her to "purge" the village before the boy was buried...............
